Early Years Learning Framework

What is the Early Years Learning Framework?

“The Early Years Learning Framework describes the principles, practice and outcomes essential to support and enhance young children’s learning from birth to five years of age, as well as their transition to school.  The Framework has a strong emphasis on play-based learning as play is the best vehicle for young children’s learning providing the most appropriate stimulus for brain development. The Framework also recognises the importance of communication and language (including early literacy and numeracy) and social and emotional development.” (Source: Australian Government website)

The Daily Diary and The Early Years Learning Framework

The Daily Diary is being used as a tool for Early Childhood Educators to assist with meeting the requirements of the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF). Many teachers are including links to the EYLF in their entries on The Daily Diary, making learning outcomes more visible to families.

Examples of documentation

“Our teachers have always taken the time to create their daily diaries each day in Word. However, I felt that 21st century learning required something more dynamic and ‘exciting’. I came across The Daily Diary and did not look back. I found it easy to implement as well as easy for the staff to pick up and use. Instead of spending time trying to manipulate documents, our staff are able to create exciting, meaningful diaries that the parents (and our students) enjoy. Parents love the fact that they can view the diaries anytime, anywhere and can look back to past entries.  A bonus of The Daily Diary, is the message board, which allows for messages to be broadcast to a class, a centre, or an individual parent. Finally, in the commercialised world we live in, after sales service is not always available. This is not the case with The Daily Diary, Julie and her team are absolutely fantastic!” Heather Weltman (IT Systems Implementations Manager Moriah Preschool).

Join the EYLF online Forum

Early childhood education professionals now have access to an online interactive Early Years Learning Framework Professional Learning Program (EYLF PLP) Forum, where they can raise questions, share ideas and simply interact with other educators implementing the EYLF in their services. High-calibre early childhood experts and practitioners from across Australia are available on the EYLF PLP Forum to respond to questions, and conduct topical discussion—about issues raised by experts and practitioners via the Forum and the national workshop program—regarding the implementation of the EYLF in services.

The EYLF PLP is developed by Early Childhood Australia under an initiative funded by the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations (DEEWR) to provide ongoing support to services as they engage in the EYLF implementation process. We invite you to use this recently launched EYLF PLP online Forum to share and discuss your experiences about the implementation of the EYLF. This is a very real opportunity to utilise the capacity of the Internet to underwrite reform in early childhood services.

Be a part of the Forum at http://forums.earlychildhoodaustralia.org.au/forum.php.

For more information about the EYLF, please visit the Australian Government website.

Please feel free to share below how you have changed your processes to meet the requirements of the EYLF
